What is the reason that Gay activist are complaining that the magazine Catholic Insight is getting funds?

Mister Wells, a Gay rights activist has filled a complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Commission , against the Catholic Insight Magazine,Wells objects the fact that the Catholic Insight magazine recieves funding from Heritage Canada Publication Assistance Program. What about Gay and Lesbian magazines like Fab, a Gay and lesbian lifestyle magazine that also gets funding from the goverment. Where does it say in the Canadian Charter of Rights that affirming a certain lifestyle is mandatory in order to get publication funding from the goverment?
The Human Rights Commission has dropped the case against Catholic Insight . The Magazine is now considering taking legal action against the complaintant
This is Hull’s second failed complaint to thr Human Rights Commission. The first was against a talk radio host who objected to taxpaers money being used to promote the Gay curriculum in schoola. He also defended traditional family values and morals on his radio program.

So I take it that Heritage Canada PAP is a government agency. In which case – as an American and the way I see things from this point of view – I don’t see why they’re funding either publication.

And the flip side is, if you’re gonna fund one, then why not the other? Why not all publications? Wny not my brilliant new (unpublished) novel, "Jane, if you don’t come out of the bathroom right now, I’m charging you rent."

Is the magazine using that privilege to also slander Gay people?

This is the first I’ve heard of this. But certainly if the magazine is being used in a form to denounce gays, then I can see the point of gay activist having a problem with the government funding.

If not, then they need to bud out.

I am not privy to the facts of this case, nor do I know Mr. Wells, but what I do know is that the government, any government, should endeavor to treat all citizens equally. That would mean, as I understand how you stated your case, if a Catholic magazine gets funding from the government, then any and all religions should get the same funding for their own magazines.

In a democratic situation like the one in Canada, there is no "state sanctioned" religion, meaning what is protected under law is the right to CHOOSE one’s faith. Supporting one religion only (in this case Catholic) shows an unfair and undue bias on the part of the government – are they saying, with their contribution, that the government supports ONLY Catholics?

Again, I am not privy to all the facts. I only have what you wrote to go by on. I’m not sure if Mr. Wells is saying his point as a gay activist, but I’m stating my point from the perspective of someone who values the freedom to choose my own faith/religion. Giving funding to only one religion is a clear case of biased support, and either the government should remove the funding, or give the same amount of funding to other religions.

Fair is fair. (I won’t go into commenting how a gay activist is fighting the Catholic church, that religion has made it pretty clear where it stands regarding gay people. Unlike religion, human rights are the concern of the government. So there really is no point of comparison, with the way you phrased the situation – correct me if I’m wrong, please – but you left the impression that this is a battle between gay people and the Catholic Church. Churches are free to espouse what they want to under their religion, as long as these do not undermine the right of any other human being, and that includes gay people. It is a human right to be able to choose and practice one’s chosen faith. It is also a human right to be able to marry, vote and adopt kids. The government is right in allowing gay people to marry. It cannot show preference to one religion only, that would be wrong.)
